Botanical expertise and training

Have you ever had difficulty making sense of those long lists of scientific names that abound in natural history? Do you wonder if there is a real link between the species list and the management plan?
My speciality is finding the meaning in those lists and making botanical recording interesting and useful. It’s all about finding the stories of the plants and the sites they grow in.
I am an ecological consultant who specialises in producing detailed and incisive analyses, to inform the owners and managers about their site and how it is changing.
The aim is to make practical ecology a real science and an asset to society. Too often, ecology is purely descriptive and plays little part in protecting or managing sites or species, but there are actually many interesting and useful things to say about ecosystems and their evolution.

On this web site you can read some of the work I have done and get information about the courses I teach. I'd like all ecologists to be researching their subject and writing about their findings, so I teach everything from simple plant ID to publishing your findings.
